Green is *totally* in.

Let’s be real - everyone feels like a bad@$$ after a good root touchup and blowout. While we may not be attending our Saturday AM appointments, local salons are still supporting the community with plenty of goodness. Now, the good is just getting better thanks to Clovis salon owner and stylist, Anna Peters, as she brings a major facelift to the beauty industry and the effects on our planet.

“We can cover our grays, but we will no longer cover up what we are putting into our landfills and our water systems,” explains Peters, Owner of re:TREAT Color + Hair Design Studio, Sam Villa® ArTeam Member, and Redken Certified Colorist. "As salon owners, we have a huge responsibility - and even bigger opportunity as leaders in our industry - to make a difference with simple, affordable changes to help the planet.”

From one bossbabe to another, Anna Peters is leading her team to take environmental-conscious procedures seriously - from new ECOHEADS shampoo nozzles that conserve up to 65% of water and energy, to eco-friendly products available for purchase from Davines, to properly disposing of their hair dyes and foils. With the help of  locally-owned Green Beauty Waste, a company also run by two fierce femmes, Jordan Myers and Lexington Brownrigg, re:TREAT’s foils, hair color, smoothing treatments, and hair itself is correctly disposed with care.

But like, what does that even mean?!

These components (hair dye, treatments, foils, and hair) are known to produce chemical buildup, such as hydrogen peroxide, formaldehyde, and methane gas. This affects economic systems, from the groundwater to the air - and takes basically forever to break down. On average, a person gets a haircut every eight weeks, and in turn, adds a foot or more of hair into landfills per person per year. If that’s not a lot, consider this: on average, a full-time stylist will create 23 pounds of waste in a three-month period of used foil, hair, color tubes, and extra color.

Pretty cray, right?! We’re all in favor of helping out the planet. While we’re patiently awaiting testing out these new shampoo nozzles, you can purchase eco-friendly products from the salon and have them shipped to your door. Stay connected with Anna Peters and the re:TREAT team on social for more updates on these initiatives on social.
