RPM PR's Guide to Dallas

We all love Clovis for its country charm, but are you looking for something a little bit more southern? If so, we’ve got you covered. We know a place where cowboys run wild, “y’all” is everyone's favorite word, honky tonks abound, and the southern hospitality is hard to ignore. The best part? It’s all in the midst of a metropolitan skyline and is filled with over one million people. Yep, we’re talking Dallas, Texas.

There might be three states between California and Texas, but lucky for us Fresnans we’re only a three hour direct flight away from the southern city (thanks, @AmericanAirlines). That’s right, it takes less time to get to Dallas than it does Los Angeles and almost the same amount of time to get to San Francisco. So buy your plane ticket, kick your feet up, and enjoy the flight ‘cause we’ve got an exciting trip planned for you.

ROOTING FOR DALLAS

You can’t talk about Dallas without mentioning the Cowboys. If you travel to Dallas during football season, attending a football game on Sunday at “Jerry’s World”, aka AT&T Stadium, is a must. If it isn’t football season, don’t sweat. You can still experience Dallas’ love for the Cowboys at the team’s world headquarters, The Star, because Texas’ love for football is a year-round thing.

The Mavericks, Dallas’ professional basketball team, shares American Airlines Center with the Stars, Dallas’ professional hockey team. Both teams are guaranteed to give you an exciting experience. Just 30 minutes outside of Dallas is Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers baseball team. What better way to spend a summer evening than at the baseball park?

EXPLORING THE CITY

Dallas is rich in history, and you don’t always have to go to a museum to learn about it.

Calling all those addicted to shopping! In 1907, the prestigious department store  Neiman Marcus opened its doors for the first time in Downtown Dallas. Today, the store is Neiman Marcus’ flagship location and is filled with the best of the best fashion pieces for its Dallas customers.

The history in Dallas doesn’t stop with fashion. The city has several connections with past presidents and politicians. On Southern Methodist University’s campus you can visit the location where Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of his famous speeches or you can reflect on the eight years of George W. Bush’s presidency at his Presidential Library. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during a parade in Dallas. Today, tourists can visit The Sixth Floor Museum and take a look back on his legacy from the location where he was shot.

ARTS AND CULTURE

DALLASTX.jpg

Meadows Museum located on Southern Methodist University's campus holds the largest collection of Spanish art in the country. If the Spanish king made a stop there, it’s probably worth the visit.

In Deep Ellum and Bishop Arts District are street murals to keep you fascinated while you check out all the art galleries in each district (Helpful tip: these areas are also known for their trendy restaurants and lively bars).

The Dallas Arboretum might not technically be “art”, but it is just as breathtaking as any Monet. Spend a nice day outside strolling through the 66 acre gardens filled with exotic plants.

FOOD AND DRINK

Dallas is the perfect city for foodies. With over 13,000 restaurants and almost as many bars it’s hard to pick the best of the best, but we tried.

Restaurants:

Stampede 66

Town Hearth

Nobu

Nick and Sam’s (Fun tip: make sure to look at the dessert menu, they have light up cotton candy that both children and adults love.)

Bars:

Happiest Hour

Katy Trail Ice House (It says it in the name, but we thought we would mention anyways, this bar is perfectly located on the Katy Trail. You can go for a run and end it with a refreshing cocktail.)

The Rustic (Fun tip: order the popsicle margarita and sit outside to enjoy live country music.)

Whether you’re single, married, or traveling with a family, Dallas is the perfect place to get the best of both worlds: city vibes with a southern charm.

BRB, we don’t want to miss our flight!
